In 1956, a group of Wheaton educators founded the future DuPage Credit Union.
Originally known as West DuPage School's Credit Union (WDSCU), the organization began when local teachers pooled their savings to provide affordable loans to one another. By the end of 1956, the Credit Union had $1,998 in assets, 33 members, and was operating out of school offices. By 1965, assets had grown to over $230,000 with 475 members.
As DuPage County changed and expanded over the decades, so did the Credit Union. In 1996, membership expanded beyond educators and the Credit Union changed its name to DuPage Credit Union. New branches opened, additional services were introduced, but the commitment remained the same: helping members achieve financial stability and opportunity.
Today, DuPage Credit Union serves over 47,000 members across seven counties and surrounding states, while remaining true to the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” Unlike traditional banks, the Credit Union continues to operate as a member-owned financial cooperative focused on the financial well-being of the communities we serve.
70 years after our founding, we still carry forward the spirit of those original educators—building relationships, supporting local communities, and helping members thrive at every stage in their financial journey.
The Credit Union Through the Years
It all began on February 15, 1956 with a small but determined group. At the very first Board meeting, twelve founding members came together with a shared vision—and a total of just $250 in deposits. From those humble beginnings, West DuPage Schools Credit Union was officially formed, setting the foundation for what would grow into something much bigger.
2026
Today, DuPage Credit Union has over 47,000 members, over $600 million in assets, and offers a full suite of banking solutions—including vehicle loans, personal loans, credit cards and mortgage loans to anyone who lives or works in DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties; or attends school in DuPage County.
Growth hasn't changed our focus; it has only expanded it. We’re giving back to our members by offering more tailored products, deeper rewards, and technology designed to make banking simpler. And when you need a human touch, you can connect with us seamlessly—by phone, text, chat, or in person.
