DuPage Credit Union Earns 2015 Illinois Dora Maxwell Award
DuPage Credit Union is honored to receive the 2015 Illinois Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for our We’ve Got Your Back Backpack Fundraiser.
Each year the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) recognizes credit unions with the Dora Maxwell Award for their involvement in community projects and activities, and we are the 1st Place Winner among credit unions our size for the State of Illinois!
This highly sought-after recognition truly speaks to the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” in the community, and we are proud to receive it.
Who Was Dora Maxwell?
Dora Maxwell (1897 – June 19, 1985) was a pioneer of the credit union movement. In 1921, she was elected to the first board of directors of the New York State Credit Union League. In addition to securing charters for hundreds of credit unions, she organized volunteer clubs and worked with several organizations to help improve the living standards of the poor.
In 1931, Dora was an organizer for and one of the original signers of the Credit Union National Extension Bureau’s constitution (which we know today as CUNA).
About Our We’ve Got Your Back Backpack Fundraiser
Having been founded by 12 educators 60 years ago, education is near and dear to our hearts.
We started We’ve Got Your Back to raise money to purchase school supplies for local students in need. Many DuPage County students lack essential school supplies, and in order to reach their potential, they need the resources to grow their ideas. Our fundraiser provides backpacks filled with school supplies, which are handed out at the DuPage Regional Office of Education’s Annual Back-to-School Fair in August. Not only do these supplies help families in need save money, they also excite students who may otherwise be unprepared for the school year.
In the first two years of the We’ve Got Your Back Backpack Fundraiser, we have raised over $26,000—putting smiles on the faces of 3,000 students who were excited to start the new school year.
Help us reach our goal of $10,000 in 2016 by making a donation to the 3rd Annual We’ve Got Your Back Fundraiser. Even a small gift can go a long way toward helping inspire a student.
