How Balance Transfers Can Help Save You Money

Man against brick wall

Key takeaway:

Balance transfers can help you save money by consolidating your credit card debt from other issuers into one low-rate DuPage Credit Union credit card. You may be able to pay less interest and thereby pay down your credit card faster. DuPage Credit Union offers two 0% intro APR1 balance transfer cards—DuPage Thrive and DuPage Canvas—as well as regular balance transfer offers for current cardholders.

A balance transfer lets you move high-interest credit card debt from other financial institutions to any DuPage Credit Union credit card, thereby saving you money.

Hundreds of members take advantage of our balance transfer opportunities every year—either by opening one of our great 0% intro APR1 balance transfer cards—DuPage Thrive and DuPage Imagine Rewards—or by taking advantage of one of our promotions throughout the year.

Is a balance transfer right for me?

If you’ve never done a balance transfer, you might be wondering if it makes financial sense. Here are some reasons you may want to transfer your balances to a DuPage Credit Union credit card:

  • Pay down debt faster and save on interest. Say you have a credit card with a $5,000 balance which carries a 25% APR. You can afford to make $250 payments each month. If you move that $5,000 balance to any DuPage Credit Union credit card, you will pay off your credit card balance 5 months earlier and save $1,270 in interest charges! Calculate how much you can save.
  • Consolidate your payments. It can be hard to keep track of different credit card payment due dates and APRs. Simplify your life by simplifying your payments. With a balance transfer, you can have only one credit card payment to make.

As you can see, balance transfers aren’t just for those who pay interest on their credit cards; they can also be a great way to simplify your life.
