There are a lot of traditions that happen over the holidays and a favorite is baking and sharing Christmas cookies! It’s not only a fun way for the family to come together, but also has your house smelling delicious for the holidays. Whether you’re using a secret family recipe or looking for a new one, here’s a classic Christmas cookie that everyone will love:

Sugar Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Frosting

  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons 2 % milk
  • Food coloring of your choice

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat eggs and extracts. Combine flour and salt and then add to creamed mixture. Mix well and let chill for 1-2 hours.
  2. Preheat oven to 375°. On a floured surface, roll dough to 1/8 in. thickness. Cut with cookie cutters. Please cut out cookies on a greased baking sheet. Bake 7-9 minutes or until lightly browned.
  3. To mix frosting, combine butter, sugar, vanilla, milk, and frost away!
