Help Those in Need- Food Pantry Volunteers

The season of giving is here! And while a cash donation to a worthy cause is always appreciated, many organizations need donations of time that won’t cost you a penny. Check out these local organizations where you can help those in need:

Northern Illinois Food Bank

Help feed our hungry neighbors by inspecting, sorting and packing food items which are  delivered to food pantries and feeding programs. Because of volunteer efforts and donations from the community, the Northern Illinois Food Bank is able to feed over 70,000 people each week in 13 northern Illinois counties, including those within our own communities. The west suburban center is located in Geneva and offers volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups and families.

Forever Homes

Share a little love with our furry friends when you help give adoptable pets a second chance at a forever home. DuPage Animal Friends provides volunteer opportunities for residents who would like to serve on its Board, or help with marketing and/or fundraising events. If you prefer being more hands on, volunteer opportunities are available at the DuPage County Animal Care and Control to help with kennel assistance, cat socializing and other miscellaneous tasks. Breed specific rescue groups, like Midwest Labrador Retriever Rescue and German Shepherd Rescue, Inc. are always looking for big-hearted dog lovers to help with events; and for good homes to foster animals and provide adoption opportunities.

Feed My Starving Children

Volunteers are needed to hand-pack meals that are sent to food partners worldwide to distribute to those in need. Fifteen million additional meals are currently needed in the Caribbean alone, to help those affected by Hurricane Matthew. Feed My Starving Children makes packing fun with upbeat music, contests between packing teams and an inspirational vibe. With locations in Aurora, Schaumburg and Libertyville it’s easy to find a packing time that fits into your schedule.

Love My Credit Union

Help thousands of DuPage County students in need get the school supplies they need to succeed in the classroom by voting for our video in Love My Credit Union’s annual video contest. Grant monies won will be used to support our We’ve Got Your Back backpack fundraiser. Will you help us? It takes just a moment to vote – and each time you vote, you are entered into a national sweepstakes to win a gift card for you and a grant for the charity of your choice.
