How to Improve Your Home’s Curb Appeal

Curb Appeal

Whether you’re trying to sell your home or you just want to impress your neighbors, curb appeal is like getting yourself ready for a big date; only it’s your home making the first impression. Here are a few ideas:

  • Clean up. The most important way to improve curb appeal is to clean up your yard. Remove toys, yard art and other clutter from the yard. Be sure all hedges are trimmed, weed all gardens and mulch your beds.
  • Front door. Make the front door entrance inviting and welcoming by dressing it up with a pot of fresh flowers. Think about upgrading the door or the handle. You want to make sure the lock works properly and give the door a fresh coat of paint if needed.
  • Wash the windows and power wash siding if needed. Windows that sparkle are not only important from the outside, but extremely important from the inside. Clean windows bring the outside in and enhance yard views.
  • Razor’s edge. Edging is a very effective way to improve curb appeal. Edge all walkways and the driveway. Remove anything that is hanging over the walkways and driveway.
  • Take a good look at your trees. As owners, we become used to seeing our overgrown trees in our yards. Show off your home – make sure branches don’t cover up the beauty of your home by removing any branches touching the house or roof.
  • Gutters. Clean them out! Sticks, leaves and baby trees growing out of the gutters is a red flag to anyone signaling potential roof damage.
  • Flowers First. All flowers should be watered, deadheaded and thriving. Remove and replace those that are struggling. If you decide to purchase new plants, choose those plants that are low maintenance.

Making a first and lasting impression is all about your home’s curb appeal. Let us know if you have any questions or ideas of your own!
