April 14, 2016 – NAPERVILLE – DuPage Credit Union recently won the prestigious Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for its efforts to provide DuPage County students in need essential school supplies through its annual We’ve Got Your Back backpack fundraising campaign.
The award, named after Dora Maxwell an early credit union pioneer, was presented recently by Illinois Credit Union League Regional Director Rick Goluszka at DuPage Credit Union’s annual meeting in Naperville. This Credit Union National Association (CUNA) award is given annually to credit unions nationwide with exceptional social responsibility projects that have a great impact on the communities they serve.
DuPage Credit Union received this honor among credit unions that are the same size in the state of Illinois.
“We’re tremendously honored to receive this award,” said Vice President of Business Solutions Amy Brandt, “and bring attention to the struggles many students and their families have making ends meet, especially at back to school time. Our goal is to give every student the tools to succeed in the classroom.”

Dora Maxwell was an early credit union pioneer and a signer of CUNA’s constitution. She worked as an organizer for the credit union movement’s trade association and held numerous volunteer positions at the local and national level. In addition to organizing hundreds of credit unions, she developed volunteer organizer clubs and worked with organizations on behalf of the poor.
