If you’re thinking of selling your house, we’ve got the perfect to-do list to get your house market-ready. So grab some coffee, take a seat and relax. We are here to help with our market-ready tips:

  1. Make your home beautiful from the curb on in. Weed and put down fresh mulch in the gardens. Trim bushes so that they don’t overhang sidewalks or crowd windows. Plant fresh flowers in pots near the steps. Paint or power wash the exterior as needed. Don’t forget to have the windows professionally cleaned.
  2. De-clutter, de-clutter, de-clutter. Put away all the family photos, children’s artwork and toys. Pack up all collections.
  3. Bookshelves, especially when a focal part of a room, are key in staging.Contents of a bookshelf should be 50% of what it can hold. Remove collectible items, vacation trinkets and leave “white space” on each shelf.
  4. Open up your closets! Over stuffed closets say you don’t have storage. Reduce the contents by 50%. Best way to do this is by putting away clothes that are not in season.
  5. Paint – neutralize the colors in all rooms. Do not paint the walls white. Use a little color in neutral beige. This will enhance your artwork and furniture.
  6. Update kitchen and bathrooms as needed. Painting old cabinets is a quick and inexpensive trick.
  7. Replace light fixtures. This is an inexpensive fix. All fixtures throughout the house should be the same color.
  8. Furniture placement is critical in utilizing a room’s space. The biggest mistake people make is placing furniture against the walls. Don’t be afraid to pull furniture away from walls, placing items on an angle or using unique seating arrangement.
  9. If you have a pet, remove all evidence of the pet when showing your house.
  10. Basements are potential, additional living space. If your basement is not finished, stage the area as if it were finished. This gives potential buyers ideas should they want to finish the basement after it is purchased.
