June 3, 2016 – WHEATON – Recently members of the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, along with the DuPage Credit Union Board of Directors, Team and its Members, celebrated the Credit Union’s 60th year of serving the community with a special ribbon cutting ceremony at the Credit Union’s Wheaton Branch Office, 625 E. Roosevelt Road.
“DuPage Credit Union is important because it was started in Wheaton by our city’s employees,” said Kerry O’Brien, Executive Director of the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, “and has continued to grow to include all residents of DuPage County.”
During the celebration, she reminisced about visiting the Credit Union with her parents when she was a child and added that although the location of the branch may have changed the member service and integrity she witnessed has stood the test of time.
“We’re proud to be a part of the Wheaton community, and for many of us, we also call Wheaton our home” said DuPage Credit Union President and CEO Diane Shelton. “Since the very beginning, we’ve been inspired to help and support the members of the community reach their financial goals.”
Originally known as West DuPage Schools Credit Union, the Credit Union was chartered on February 15, 1956 by 12 educators at Wheaton Community High School. Over the years and through several mergers, West DuPage Schools Credit Union would grow into DuPage Credit Union, which now has a Membership of nearly 34,000 and serves anyone who lives or works in seven northern Illinois counties; or is a student in DuPage County.
